The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed, passed away.

The Ministry of Presidential Affairs wished his condolences to the people of the United Arab Emirates, to the Arab and Islamic nations and the world on the occasion of the death of the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, died on Friday, 13 May 2022.




The news was announced today by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs in the official press service Wam who also said that there will be 40 days of official mourning with flags at half-mast, and three days of closures of departments and official entities at the federal, local, and private sector levels.

The official mourning period will begin on Saturday and normal working hours will resume on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.


Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed was the second President of the United Arab Emirates since 2004. it is recognized for contributing to bring the country to obtain notoriety on a worldwide.


President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was born on January 25, 1948 in the city of Al-Ain, at the time in the Treve States, currently in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, 23 years before the creation of the United Arab Emirates in 1971. Sheikh Khalifa was the eldest son of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the country.


Before taking the presidency, he was crown prince of Abu Dhabi and head of the Supreme Petroleum Council of Abu Dhabi, the highest decision-making body for the energy of the oil-rich emirate.


During his presidency, Sheikh Khalifa oversaw economic reforms and modernization while managing «Abu Dhabi Investment Authority», one of the largest investment funds in the world.

He supported the UAE acquisition of English Premier League football club Manchester City, and the highest tower in the world - The Burj Khalifa - in Dubai.


Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, expressed his deep sadness at the news as well as Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, who also shared an online message in memory of the President of the United Arab Emirates.


Some leaders in the region and around the world have already expressed their condolences.
